seeing the sun
I looked out my back window this morning when I woke up and saw the sun beating down on the beautiful yellow fall leaves of the trees in my back yard against a bright blue sky. All I could think was that the leaves were reflecting the yellow sun of a new day dawning. The days have been dreary lately—both literally and figuratively. I have been locked away in our house keeping safe and trying to keep sane. I have been tuned in to the news, awaiting results of the election and watching the numbers of the virus rise.
This morning I was so taken aback by the beauty outside my door, the peace that stood there waiting for me. So took a moment to breath and to give thanks for a new day.
The times that we have been living through have been turbulent, to say the least. In the past few weeks and days it has been too easy to get lost in the earthly worries before us. When we get caught up in the stress and strain of it all, is difficult to remember to give thanks for the day that has been given to us. When the world seems so heavy it is hard to step away, even for a moment, to breathe.
But occasionally God gives us little reminders, reminders of God’s goodness, grace and peace. It might come in the beauty of the sun in the trees against a beautiful blue sky or in the look on a loved one’s face. It might come in the calm a moment of peace that washes over you or in the joy of a friend’s laughter. Wherever you find that reminder, I hope you will take a moment to breathe it in and give thanks.
