Snowing!

There is just something magical about snow.

When I was a kid, I can remember the hope and excitement that snow would bring. Lying in my bed, I would peak outside my window just hoping to see the snow capped light outside my window.

A snow day!

No school. Laying around the house. Sledding with friends. Popcorn and movies. Reading a good book.

Oh I loved a snow day. A break in routine was always a welcomed experience. Snow brought joy and delight to me as a child.

Even now there is something magical for me about snow. The world covered in white — made new again with the fresh fallen snow. Calm and peace in the air. Everything seems to slow down and quiet down when it snows. The world seems to still. Beauty covers the ugly winter darkness.

Now, as I live snow days with my children, the magic is even more. Snow means movies and blankets, hot chocolate and baking cookies. Right now as snow has blanketed the ground outside I have settled in a chair while my girls lounge on the couch watching movies. A moment of unexpected lack of schedule. No school work, no Zooming, no classes. Just snuggled up with each other and I find a moment to breath and enjoy and give thanks for this day.

But as I settle into this snowday, I know that for others it does not carry the same joy. Instead it means worries and concern. A day made longer by a slower commute to work. Worry about the heat bill. Concern over extra days to feed more mouths. A struggle against the cold.

While for many of us we are enjoying this great snow day, may we remember in our prayers those for whom snow makes life more difficult and may God’s peace and comfort surround them!
